Illustrator 10  - and a tablet!

What's new in Illustrator? (answer: almost everything)
Just like with Photoshop, Adobe has their focus firmly on web graphics and smooth production of web page features.
Style sheets for web pages (CSS layers) are new; illustrator layers that you can export as CSS layers into an HTML page, or how about slicing huge graphics into smaller bits for rollover effects on the web page? This and more makes you stop and wonder: Hey, wasn't this a vector drawing program once?
"Dynamic data-driven graphics"? Scripting - with a 400 page scripting guide?? Where does it end *grin*?

Warp and distort effects lets you change almost anything (text, objects) into anything. Any path can be used as a basis for distorting other objects or text (or images) in Illustrator. Using the command 'Make from Mesh' lets you apply a grid (this is no new stuff for all 3d fans) over images and objects and use the Mesh to distort them.

Liquify Tools are what you'd guess they'd be by their name; the new tools like Pucker, Bloat and Scallop to mention a few - will let you warp text or images (or other objects).

Symbolism Tools is a fancy way of saying Photoshops pattern stamp. You can define symbols and then spray them on your image (like grass areas, leaves and other objects you otherwise would either paint several times or create many duplicates of) as many times as you'll like. Supports pressure-sensitive tablets which lets you fine-tune them ;-)
You can also use paint tools (raster style) on vector objects, creating more natural effects and transparency.

Full compatibility with Photoshop lets you move between the two programs, keeping layers, masks and other settings so your finished artwork is a combination of vector and raster (bitmapped) graphics.
