What's new in Photoshop 7.0?
Photoshop 7 is bursting with new features. Many are oriented towards web page design and multimedia work.
Web page elements can now be made transparent by simply clicking the color you want to knock out. Long gone is the 'good old' image/photo editing software, say welcome to a completely different program with some new stuff that makes you wonder if you're using Painter...
Since the GTS book was written, Adobe has released new
versions of both Photoshop and Illustrator. Of course,
they're proud of the built-in file browser, redesign of the brush engine and new
tools like the Patch tool (a selection tool that lets you 'heal' an area)
and so on, but let's take a
look at some of
the tools that lets you take advantage of your tablet:
(read about the other new features at the Adobe website).
• Healing Brush
is a powerful photo retouching tool that lets you remove
stuff like wrinkles and blemishes. In other words;
an easier way to edit photos than the existing tools
for retouching (like the Clone Stamp Tool). This brush is not only pressure-sensitive, but lets you preserve texture and shades. Choose between the 'manual' Healing Brush or the patch tool that fixes an area at once (below).

• Tool customization lets you save your settings as a new tool, an excellent option for those who do similar tasks often (like feathering selections with 4 pixels).
• New Paint Tools (Brushes) is Adobes response to hardcore paint programs like Corel Painter. The Brushes palette is bursting with new brushes which lets you draw with charcoal or pastels effects, everything customizable. Fully compatible with tilt, Wacoms airbrush tool, in addition to shape, pressure, diameter, texture and everything else. In my experience, just getting to know these tools will take awhile - you'' get dizzy with all the options - not that I'm complaining!
Of course, if you're not happy with the preset brushes - create your own! PS: Another Painter feature: You may now create backgrounds from areas of an image you're fond of and turn it into web backgrounds
(tile it) ...
• Turbulence Brush is a way of distorting the pixels in a photo so an area will seem filled with smoke or fire..Read about the other new features at the Adobe website
